Many times a solid brass butt cap makes the knife too "handle-heavy". I have ordered 4 Randalls for the Blade show in stainless with nickel silver double hilt and duralumin butt caps. 2 ea. Model #1's (a 6" & 7") and 2 ea. Model #2's (same: 6" & 7"). If it was strictly a "revenue issue" I would have ordered solid nickel silver butt caps @ $70.

The 7" blade is O-1 tool steel at 56-57 Rc. with a brass double hilt and butt cap. The overall length is 12". This is a great knife and has been copied by most handmade knifemakers at some point in their career, and sometimes by knife manufacturers as well. The Randall Model 1 is the original and well worth any difference in price or delivery time.

No-Weld Butt Cap Stud. I make some full tang knives with a butt cap. There are a number of ways to accomplish this. With thick steel. I often just drill and tap a hole in the end of the tang and tread a piece of all-thread rod into it. With thinner steel, I sometimes just cut the blank with an extension that I will thread later.
